On location: film-makers shooting footage in St Giles Hill Park

Writer's picture: Harry MycockHarry Mycock

Among park-users braving the cold this morning in St Giles Hill Park was a group of student film-makers enrolled in the University of Winchester's Film Production Course. The team was filming what director Lily described as a “coming of age / rejection story," set partly on a park bench, with the backdrop panorama provided by the majesty of the Park and view beyond.

The camera crew said they loved to use the Park as it provides so many opportunities and is right on the University's doorstep.  They particularly liked autumn for filming as the colours are so rich but today the naked trees and bright sunlight provided just what was wanted for the scenes in question.

The actors were smiling despite having to wear too-few clothes for the weather during the shots. They rehearsed in relative warmth but for the actual shot shed a couple of layers of coats and in gaps kept warm by jogging and the judicious use of hot water bottles provided by the director.

It's great to see the Park being used and appreciated in so many different ways and by so many different visitors.  A reminder that this place remains one of our city’s greatest assets.
